Telling Tales

It’s thanks to well-meaning members of the public that the Museum has such a wealth of local specimens to exhibit. Well-meaning folk like Ludwig Becker who offered the Museum a Fur seal that he came upon sitting under the shade of a tree near the corner of Punt and Toorak Roads in the summer of 1859. People like the Smith family who donated their hand-made marionettes, for whom they constructed sets, wrote scripts and brought to life at a purpose-built theatre at Luna Park in the 1930s.

The Melbourne Story is a blockbuster, and a terrific way to know and love more about this dirty town.

So, is the answer to that fannoying advertising campaign on every tram shelter: Angus from AC/DC?

Good to see they dusted off old Phar Lap for the show...whose name translates to...? (Yet another one of those 'How Well Do You Know Melbourne' prods all about town.)

Slow guides

The Slow Guides are for anybody who wants to slow down and live it up, seachange without shifting postcode. They celebrate all that’s local, natural, traditional, sensory and most of all gratifying about living in Sydney and Melbourne. Click on a book for a preview.

How to buy a book

Start off slow and get your book the old-fashioned way; pop into a store and say g’day. But if you’re too entranced with what’s happening in your garden, or too preoccupied gazing on a cloud, you could always order one online.
